Some of the stories in this book are technically brilliant and have appealed to many young adult readers; they are a kind of bridge between the children’s stories and the clearly adult stories. They tell of a woman who murders her husband with a leg of lamb, a sound machine that enables us to hearFile Size: KB.   While Book Woman dug a little deeper into the history of the time and the day-to-day struggle of the librarians. Book Woman also offered the additional storyline of the Blue People of Kentucky. I definitely felt déja vu during various sections of this book, and it has been about 6 months since I read The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek. I went.

Love as Power. One way of reading Sandra Cisneros' fiction is to examine some of the central themes it seems repeatedly to deal with, several of which inform both The House on Mango Street and "Woman Hollering Creek" and Other of the most striking are sexual love as an exercise of power; alienation and displacement; and conflicts between the individual and cultural/familial. I love Cisneros's writing. This is clearly poetic in nature, and there is really no plot. But she paints a vivid picture. This is a series of essays, set in the US and in Mexico. Cisneros uses a lot of Spanish in these stories and most of my book club members (both book clubs) did not appreciate them very much. But I find her works immensely /5(30).

Mary Flanagan is the author of Bad Girls, Trust, and The Blue Woman. An American, she lives in London.5/5(1). Elly Griffiths, "The Woman in Blue", is her eighth Ruth Galloway story and if you are a fan of this series, as I am, it's like a visit with old friends.

And like any visit with old friends, things are always changing. Due to the circumstances that took place in prior stories, there is a major change with one of the characters/5().

Inspired by the true blue-skinned people of Kentucky and the brave and dedicated Kentucky Pack Horse library service of the s, The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek is a story of raw courage, fierce strength, and one woman's belief that books can carry us anywhere—even back home.

Additional Praise for The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek/5(). Now, in The Blue Bedroom and Other Stories, she invites you to share the full spectrum of life's moods and emotions through her very first collection of short stories. From a child's first knowledge of death, through city and country, to an elderly woman's newfound freedom, The Blue Bedroom is a welcoming experience full of the honesty and warmth unique to Rosamunde Pilcher/5().

The Woman in Blue (Ruth Galloway Series Book 8) - Kindle edition by Griffiths, Elly. Download it once and read it on your Kindle device, PC, phones or tablets. Use features like bookmarks, note taking and highlighting while reading The Woman in Blue (Ruth Galloway Series Book 8)/5().

The Woman Novelist and Other Stories book. Read 17 reviews from the world's largest community for readers. There are 15 stories in this collection, all e /5. The book woman of Troublesome Creek is someone very rare - a member of the blue people of Kentucky.

This was real. As a result of inbreeding some people developed a rare blood condition which meant their skin was blue and their blood was brown/5.

The Other Woman by Swedish writer Therese Bohman (translated by Marlaine Delargy) is such a book, and possibly one of the best books I have read even though is only half over.

The protagonist of The Other Woman is nameless and faceless. She is fairly young, has some college education, and desires to be a writer/5. Girl, Woman, Other. Girl, Woman, Other follows the lives and struggles of twelve very different characters.

Mostly women, black and British, they tell the stories of their families, friends and lovers, across the country and through the years. Girl, Woman, Other follows the lives and struggles of twelve very different characters/5(K).

Back of the Book “I feel a woman is most attractive when she surrenders to her man. She is incomplete without man,” averred Kamala Das shortly before her death in May, One of the most controversial and celebrated Indian authors, she combined in her writings rare honestly and sensitivity, provocation and poignancy.

The Kept Woman and Other Stories explores the man-woman relationship. The body of a beautiful woman is found in a cemetery as "The Woman in Blue" begins, and it appears that Ruth Galloway’s friend Cathbad might be a witness, as he saw what he believed to be a vision of the Virgin Mary in the same place on the night before the body was found/5().

The Woman Novelist and Other Stories by Diana Gardner Several of the stories in The Woman Novelist are about women behaving badly, and many of them are uncomfortable reading; all are acutely observant.

"The Wife of His Youth" is a short story by American author Charles W. Chesnutt, first published in July It later served as the title story of the collection The Wife of His Youth and Other Stories of the book was first published inthe same year Chesnutt published his short story collection The Conjure Woman.

"The Wife of His Youth" features an upwardly mobile. Girl, Balancing and Other Stories by Helen Dunmore review – her final work This posthumous collection from the much-loved author, focusing on motherhood, war and women under threat, is an act of Author: Blake Morrison.

I think true stories can be the best ones to read as it allows some of the readers to identify with this particular situation of being the other woman. The other woman goes through all kinds of strong emotions, mostly grief, doubts, and emotional hurt/pain.

She not only feels jealous of the man's wife, but also she feels guilty for breaking. Shop for Books at and browse categories like Young Adult Books, Children's Books, Mystery Books, Adult Coloring Books and Cook Books. Save money.
